Interseismic Strain Accumulation Across the Main Recent Fault, SW Iran, From Sentinel?1 InSAR Observations

چکیده

The Main Recent Fault is a major right-lateral strike-slip fault in the western Zagros mountains of Iran. geodetic and geological studies estimate low slip rate 1–6 mm/yr at an unknown depth which, when combined with non-ideal geometry, makes difficult but interesting target for InSAR analysis. This analysis would further cement estimated provide opportunity to base locked seismogenic zone, both important constraints on seismic hazard posed by fault, as well understanding how oblique convergence accommodated partitioned across Zagros. We use 200 Sentinel-1 SAR images from past 5 years, spanning two ascending descending tracks, first InSAR-derived locking 300 km long section fault. utilize established processing systems, LiCSAR LiCSBAS, produce interferograms perform time series analysis, respectively. constrain north-south motion using GNSS observations, decompose our line-of-sight velocities into fault-parallel vertical motion, fit 1-D screw dislocation models three fault-perpendicular profiles velocity, following Bayesian approach posterior probability distribution parameters. interseismic velocity 2.4 ± 1.2 below loosely constrained 14 depth, such discuss challenges constraining magnitude signals.

InSAR observations of strain accumulation and fault creep along the Chaman Fault system, Pakistan and Afghanistan

We use 2004–2011 Envisat synthetic aperture radar imagery and InSAR time series methods to estimate the contemporary rates of strain accumulation in the Chaman Fault system in Pakistan and Afghanistan.At29Nwefind long-termslip ratesof16 ± 2.3mm/yr for theGhazabandFault andof8 ± 3.1mm/yr for the Chaman Fault. This makes the Ghazaband Fault one of themost hazardous faults of the plate boundary zo...

Interferometric synthetic aperture radar-GPS integration: Interseismic strain accumulation across the Hunter Mountain fault in the eastern California shear zone

[1] The principal limitations of interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) to measure subtle, long‐wavelength deformation are uncertainties associated with the satellite orbits. We propose a method to remove orbital phase errors from the InSAR data by integrating InSAR and continuous GPS time series. We model the along‐track variation of the baseline errors as second‐order polynomials an...

High-resolution interseismic velocity data along the San Andreas Fault from GPS and InSAR

[1] We compared four interseismic velocity models of the San Andreas Fault based on GPS observations. The standard deviations of the predicted secular velocity from the four models are larger north of the San Francisco Bay area, near the creeping segment in Central California, and along the San Jacinto Fault and the East California Shear Zone in Southern California. A coherence spectrum analysi...

Active tectonic evidences related to the Main Recent Fault in the Sarvabad region, NW Iran

-Introduction The Main Recent Fault (MRF) is a seismic structure on the northwestern boundary of the Zagros belt and southern border of the Sanandaj-Sirjan belt. This fault as a major strike-slip fault consists of several segments in the Zagros collision zone. The seismic activity of the southwestern segments is greater than the northwestern segments. Several earthquake events have occurred al...

Interseismic Deformation of the Altyn Tagh Fault Determined by Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) Measurements

The Altyn Tagh Fault (ATF) is one of the major left-lateral strike-slip faults in the northeastern area of the Tibetan Plateau. In this study, the interseismic deformation across the ATF at 85 ̋E was measured using 216 interferograms from 33 ENVISAT advanced synthetic aperture radar images on a descending track acquired from 2003 to 2010, and 66 interferograms from 15 advanced synthetic aperture...
